Job summary

Mercy Hospital of Buffalo is seeking a dedicated Medical Coder to code ambulatory, ER/urgent care, interventional radiology and local surgery records for accurate reimbursement and compliance. You will query physicians when documentation is unclear and review the full medical record using ICD-9-CM and CPT classifications.

Requirements include a health information degree (B.S. or AAS), RHIA/RHIT preferred or CCS/CPC certification; eligibility for certification within one year, and ongoing

Qualifications

• B.S. in Health Information Management or AAS in Health Information Technology; RHIA/RHIT preferred.
• Certification as RHIA/RHIT or CCS/CPC considered; eligible candidates acceptable if enrolled in HIT/HIM program.
• Maintains AHIMA/AAPC credentials and passes coding tests as required.

Responsibilities

• Code hospital ambulatory, ER/urgent care, interventional radiology, and local surgery records.
• Review complete medical records for accurate ICD-9-CM and CPT coding.
• Query physicians when documentation is unclear; ensure compliance and reimbursement.
