Job summary

Genesee County Health Department is seeking a skilled clerical/billing professional to handle high-accuracy medical billing tasks and clinic registration coordination. You will work under supervision to support multiple department programs, particularly billing and registration staff.

The role requires strong clerical experience, software familiarity with EPIC, CHAMPS, and NextGen, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment in a public health setting.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Minimum four years of clerical experience with typing 30 net words per minute.
• One year of experience with medical billing software including billing, coding and denials.

Responsibilities

• Assign work to clerical employees in the Health Department, specifically billing and registration staff.
• Coordinate and oversee the activities of the clerical/billing staff including training, workflow, verification of work performed.
• Collaborate with supervisors to ensure alignment on departmental priorities and efficient operations within clerical and billing functions.
• Type and prepare reports, correspondence and other documents.
• Prepare training materials and resources applicable to billing and registration.
• Utilize personal computers and related software, including EPIC, CHAMPS, NextGen.
• Assist medical providers, billing staff and clinic employees with direction on the usage of specific diagnosis codes, CPT codes and modifiers of documentation requirements.
• Create procedures and documents for clerical staff to follow as it relates to billing procedures that have been approved by Medical Director.
