Job summary

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is seeking a Data Scientist to transform healthcare insights. You will leverage large healthcare datasets using Python to automate data tables, visuals, and client-focused slides.

You’ll collaborate with business partners to sharpen deliverables, address questions, and drive cost and utilization insights for accounts. The role requires 5–7+ years in data science or healthcare analytics, proficiency in SQL, Python and/or R, and experience with Snowflake/S3.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Healthcare Analytics, or related field.
• 5–7+ years of professional data science, healthcare analytics, or related field.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python and/or R for data extraction, manipulation, and modeling.
• Experience with cloud-based tools (e.g., Snowflake, S3 buckets).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills—able to distill complex analyses for non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Use Python to build automated reporting pipelines that generate data tables and graphs for PowerPoint slides.
• Develop and organize high-quality code enhancements with minimal supervision.
• Act as SME to identify key drivers and address clarifying questions from account meetings.
• Clean raw data and ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of downstream analytics.
• Collaborate with internal partners to refine client-facing deliverables and output files.
• Partner with Underwriting, Health and Medical Management, Sales, and Finance to align analytics with business strategy.
