Job summary

Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) offers a 14-week, paid Patient Healthcare Fellowship designed to prepare participants for entry-level administrative roles within the healthcare system. The program includes in-person training at the YMCA Education and Training Center, followed by orientation and onboarding at BMCHS.

Fellows learn medical office operations, Microsoft Office, career readiness, and BMCHS-specific workflows, with on-site opportunities during the final two weeks to engage

Qualifications

• Interest in pursuing a career in healthcare administration.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Standard English communication skills (oral and written) with patients via phone and email.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare environment.
• Commitment to attendance, participation, and completion of all program components.

Responsibilities

• Participate in in-person classroom and hands-on training focused on medical administrative and office support skills.
• Learn and apply core competencies in scheduling, patient registration, electronic health records, and communication.
• Engage in Microsoft Office and data management training, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and customer service skills throughout all aspects of the fellowship.
• Participate in BMCHS orientation, shadowing, and department activities during the final two weeks of the program.
• Complete all coursework and program requirements in preparation for CMAA exam.
