Job summary

Boston Medical Center supports a 14-week paid Patient Healthcare Fellowship designed to prepare participants for entry-level administrative roles within the health system. The program includes in-person training at the YMCA Education and Training Center, followed by orientation and onboarding activities at BMCHS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be a current BMCHS Patient to be eligible for this program.
• Interest in pursuing a career in healthcare administration.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer literacy; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
• Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning new systems and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Participate in in-person classroom and hands-on training focused on medical administrative and office support skills.
• Learn and apply core competencies in scheduling, patient registration, electronic health records, and communication.
• Engage in Microsoft Office and data management training, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and customer service skills throughout all aspects of the fellowship.
• Participate in BMCHS orientation, shadowing, and department-based activities during the final two weeks of the program.
• Successfully complete all coursework and program requirements in preparation for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam.
