Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus seeks a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to provide exceptional patient and family service, and to ensure smooth administrative operations to support caregivers in delivering high-quality care.

This full-time evening role (3:00pm–11:00pm) involves greeting patients, responding to call lights, assisting with admissions/transfers/discharges, helping with wayfinding, maintaining medical records, and troubleshooting unit devices.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

In the Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit, patients recover from conscious sedation procedures such as cardiac catheterizations and electrophysiology interventions, typically requiring less than a 23-hour stay with telemetry monitoring as needed. The unit also prepares patients for kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplants. In the Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Cardiac Accelerated Recovery Unit, patients recover from general anesthesia following cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and electrophysiology procedures.

As Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will offer unparalleled customer service to patients, families and visitors to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience. Using your administrative and clerical skills, you will ensure efficient operational flow of the department, allowing your fellow caregivers to continue providing optimal patient care.

A caregiver in this position works evenings, full-time, 3:00pm—11:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
• Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
• Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
• Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
• Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED
• One year of experience in a customer service-related role
• Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• College degree
• Microsoft Office experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.25

Maximum hourly: $24.95
