Summary

The Health Technician - Massage Therapy provides massage therapy at the George E. Whalen medical center within the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System. The occupation offers clinical services addressing a wide range of health issues impacting a diverse patient population. The work requires knowledge of therapeutic massage concepts, principles, and practices, encompassing modalities from Western and Eastern traditions.

Duties

• Utilize standard patient evaluation procedures to formulate treatment plans.
• Incorporate various massage therapy and bodywork techniques.
• Perform complex massage therapy services with limited supervision and coordinate follow-up care.
• Maintain a clean environment by changing linens, refilling oils, and cleaning equipment.
• Provide massage therapy self-care instructions to patients and families.
• Educate patients on healthy lifestyles, including hydration, nutrition, stretching, exercise, and stress management.
• Mentor other staff in massage therapy practices.
• Use communication techniques to encourage and educate individuals and groups.
• Document and code patient care information in the VA's electronic health record.
• Review patient referrals for appropriateness and direct Veterans to other services as needed.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM. Flexible options available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 500-hour massage therapy education program.
• Current licensure, registration, or certification as a massage therapist, or board certification from NCBTMB.
• One year of specialized experience at the GS-6 level for GS-7 position.
• Demonstrated knowledge of patient assessment, communication skills, and interpersonal relationships.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform activities involving standing, walking, lifting over 50 pounds, and travel within the VHA system.
