Job description

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager - Join us on the Journey to Transform Our Nation’s Energy

Renewable Acres, Inc. (RAI) is seeking an experienced Manager of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to lead the implementation and ongoing management of our company-wide HSE program across our construction and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities. This is an opportunity to take ownership of HSE within a growing renewable-energy organization and help establish a strong, consistent safety culture across construction projects and operating assets.

Who We Are:

Renewable Acres is committed to integrating utility-scale solar power and battery energy storage into our national infrastructure, driving sustainable, long-lasting energy solutions for communities across the country. Based in Portland, Oregon, we work collaboratively with our sister development company (GreenKey Solar) to drive change developing utility-scale renewable energy projects in key growth markets. We are a fast-paced team of doers, taking ownership of our work and proactively solving problems to achieve ambitious goals.

Your Mission:

As the HSE Manager, you will serve as RAI's primary internal HSE leader and will be responsible for translating our HSE policies, standards, and procedures into effective field practices.

RAI has retained an experienced third-party HSE consultant to assist with the development of our comprehensive HSE Management Program. The successful candidate will work with company leadership and our HSE consultant to implement, administer, maintain, and continuously improve the program across the organization.

This is a hands‑on leadership position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with executive leadership while also spending meaningful time in the field with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Superintendents, O&M personnel, subcontractors, and craft personnel.

What We Value:
  • Accountability & Ownership: We take responsibility for our work and see it through, owning our successes and failures alike.
  • Problem‑Solving & Innovation: We solve problems, not just identify them. We approach challenges with creativity and analytical rigor.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: We value collaboration. We work seamlessly with development, engineering, procurement, and construction teams to drive projects forward.
  • Initiative & Self‑Starter: We don’t wait for things to happen; we make them happen. We take proactive steps and push for progress.
  • Integrity & Transparency: We operate with honesty and clarity, making decisions based on what’s right for the team and the project.
Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead company‑wide implementation and administration of RAI's HSE Management Program.
  • Establish consistent HSE expectations across construction projects and O&M operations.
  • Conduct project and operating‑site inspections, audits, and safety observations.
  • Provide HSE guidance and technical support to Project Managers, Construction Managers, Superintendents, O&M personnel, and field teams.
  • Support project preconstruction, mobilization, execution, commissioning, and turnover activities.
  • Establish and monitor requirements for JHAs/JSAs, pre‑task planning, toolbox talks, inspections, training, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee HSE requirements for subcontractors and third‑party service providers.
  • Lead or support incident, injury, near‑miss, electrical‑event, and environmental investigations and associated root‑cause analyses.
  • Develop and monitor leading and lagging HSE performance indicators.
  • Maintain regulatory and HSE recordkeeping requirements.
  • Coordinate specialized training, consultants, and third‑party HSE resources when required.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture built around planning, hazard recognition, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.

This position supports both active construction projects and RAI's Operations & Maintenance organization.

The Manager will provide HSE oversight for activities including:

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

  • Preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Energized electrical systems
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Working at heights and fall protection
  • Excavation and trenching
  • Cranes, lifting, and rigging
  • Mobile equipment and material handling
  • Emergency response
Electrical Safety

Because this position supports both construction and operating renewable‑energy assets, strong electrical‑safety knowledge is important. The Manager will provide leadership and oversight of RAI's electrical‑safety program while working with qualified engineering and electrical personnel on matters requiring specialized engineering or technical determinations.

The successful candidate should have working knowledge of:

  • NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • NFPA 70E – Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
  • OSHA electrical‑safety requirements
  • Electrical safe‑work practices
  • Lockout/Tagout and electrical isolation
  • Arc‑flash and shock hazards
  • Qualified and unqualified electrical‑worker requirements
  • Electrical PPE and approach boundaries
  • Establishing an electrically safe work condition
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Minimum 5‑7 years of progressively responsible HSE experience, preferably within renewable energy, electrical construction, power generation, utility construction, industrial facilities, or heavy civil construction.
  • Experience implementing and administering corporate HSE programs.
  • Experience supporting multiple concurrent construction or operating sites.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA construction and general‑industry requirements.
  • Experience with electrical safety, LOTO, and energized electrical work.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root‑cause analyses.
  • Experience evaluating and managing subcontractor HSE performance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to construction projects and operating facilities.
  • A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Significant directly applicable experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Candidates should possess, or be capable of obtaining within an established period following employment:

  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction
  • First Aid/CPR/AED
  • NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training
  • Applicable Competent Person training

A recognized professional safety credential is strongly preferred, including:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Safety Management Professional (SMP)

Additional desirable qualifications include OSHA 500/510, Qualified Electrical Worker training, arc‑flash/electrical hazard training, Fall Protection Competent Person, Excavation/Trenching Competent Person, HAZWOPER, environmental/stormwater training, and BESS‑specific electrical or emergency‑response training.

What We Are Looking For

This position is well suited for an HSE professional who wants more than a traditional site‑safety role.

We are looking for someone who can build relationships, influence behavior, establish accountability, and turn a written HSE program into the way work is actually performed in the field.

The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between corporate‑level program management and active construction and O&M environments. They should be capable of coaching project leadership, engaging directly with field personnel, identifying emerging risks, and helping RAI develop an HSE organization appropriate for our continued growth.
