Job summary

Prime Healthcare seeks a Health Information Management Technician I (HIM Tech) at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, AL. You will handle requests to release patient health information and ensure HIPAA compliance while supporting accurate billing.

Responsibilities include chart completeness, collaboration with clinicians, processing records requests from multiple parties, and supporting audits. EMR experience (Epic) and a high school diploma are required or preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience with accurate alphabetic and numeric filing preferred.
• One year hospital experience preferred.
• Knowledge of terminal digit filing and medical terminology preferred.
• Data entry with 10-key and accurate typing speed of 35 wpm preferred.
• Completion of a medical terminology course preferred.
• Background in business and office training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure patient charts are complete and accurate by checking for missing reports, unsigned orders, and incomplete discharge summaries.
• Perform chart analysis and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and staff to correct documentation.
• Process requests for medical records from patients, attorneys, insurers, and government agencies while safeguarding information under HIPAA and hospital policies.
• Handle complex or legal requests such as subpoenas, audits, or court orders with timely and documented responses.
• Monitor compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state laws, and hospital policies by preparing records for audits or inspections.
• Use EMR systems like Epic to update and maintain records, resolve data issues and support coding and vital records reporting.
