Job description

Who we are: La Clínica de La Raza is a community-based health center committed to providing culturally appropriate, high-quality, and accessible health care to the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. We have spent over 40 years advocating for and creating a health-home for those denied access to care. As health care activists, we are dedicated to ensuring individuals without healthcare coverage receive the same quality healthcare as those with coverage. Since our founding in 1971, we have understood that healing communities requires addressing economic and social factors affecting health, often by providing services in various settings that connect individuals to our primary and preventive care. Over 90,000 individuals visit La Clínica because it is a welcoming place that addresses the whole person, connecting them to a broad network of services to improve their health and well-being. While rooted in activism and social justice, we have grown into a sophisticated provider of primary health care services with 35 sites across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties.

Clinic Supervisor

Major Areas of Responsibility include but are not limited to:

Staff Supervision
  • Hires, trains, and supervises receptionists, clinical assistants, referrals, and medical records clerks.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and develops improvement plans for staff, initiating remedial instruction when necessary.
  • Participates in relevant meetings, trainings, and collaborative activities.
Operational Support
  • Ensures coverage of absences daily and performs tasks in the absence of key staff or as workload demands.
  • Facilitates smooth clinic flow and communication between departments.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe and functional clinic environment, including facilities, equipment, custodial services, and IT.
  • Maximizes third-party revenues through appropriate provider scheduling.
Patient Experience
  • Advocates for patients by responding to complaints, supervising the appointment tickler system, and providing patient letters.
  • Collaborates with the Site Manager and Associate Medical Director to uphold high standards of care and customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Knowledge
  • Administration and Management: Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership, and coordination.
  • Language: Knowledge of English language structure, spelling, grammar, and composition.
  • Patient Service: Understanding of principles for providing patient services, including needs assessment and satisfaction evaluation.
  • Clerical: Familiarity with administrative procedures and systems like word processing and record management.
  • Personnel and Human Resources: Knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and training procedures.
  • Health Technology: Experience with NextGen, Practice Management Systems, and Microsoft Office.
Abilities
  • Maintain courteous and effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to create and document budgets (preferred).
  • Solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Interpret various instructions in different formats.
  • Recognize potential problems.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion across cultures.
  • English/Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.
Experience and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of responsible work in a community health setting, including direct services to low-income and immigrant patients.
  • Bachelor’s degree or medical/dental assistant certification is preferred.
  • Cultural competence in diverse/low-income communities.
  • Supervision experience is strongly preferred.
