Job summary

The Anchorage Health Department seeks an experienced communications professional to coordinate public information and outreach for department events and public health initiatives.

You will plan and execute long-range publicity strategies, collaborate with the Mayor’s Office and partners, and lead health promotion activities to inform and engage the community. Strong media relations and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree and 7 years of experience in news media and public relations.
• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in news media and public relations.
• Master’s degree and 3 years of experience in news media and public relations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform public information and outreach activities for the Anchorage Health Department and communicate with the media regarding public/community events.
• Plan, prepare, implement and promote a comprehensive, long-range publicity program to keep the public informed of departmental programs, activities, policies and services.
• Coordinate health promotion activities with department partners and external entities; develop and implement priority projects to enhance public health.

Education

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

Associate’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science or related

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science or related

Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science or related
