Job summary

Municipality of Anchorage is seeking an experienced communications professional in the Anchorage Health Department to coordinate public information and outreach activities. The role will involve communicating with the media about department events, planning long-range publicity, and coordinating with city offices and partners to promote public health programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and nine (9) years of experience in the news media and public relations.
• Associate's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science, or related discipline and seven (7) years of experience in the news media and public relations.
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science or a related discipline and five (5) years of experience in the news media and public relations.
• Master's degree in Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science or a related discipline and three (3) years of experience in the news media and public relations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate health promotion activities, including public health materials, presentations, media outreach, community groups, and training.
• Develop and implement projects prioritized to enhance public health in the community.
• Communicate with the media regarding public/community-based events involving the Department.
• Plan, prepare, implement and promote a comprehensive, long-range program of publicity and promotion to inform the public of departmental programs and services.
