Job summary

The County of Santa Clara seeks an experienced Public Health Communications Officer to plan, develop, direct, and evaluate a comprehensive health information and communications program for the Public Health Department.

You will lead outreach campaigns, act as a liaison with media and partners, and coordinate press conferences and spokesperson activities while supervising staff and aligning communications with public health goals.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in marketing, journalism, communications, public health or related field.
• At least five years as a public information officer, journalist, or in a public relations function, with health-related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, direct, coordinate, implement, organize, and evaluate a comprehensive health information and communications program.
• Lead outreach campaigns and liaise with local/national news media and community groups.
• Coordinate press conferences, news media interviews, and spokesperson activities.
• Supervise staff, manage budgets, and ensure timely creation of reports and communications materials.
• Develop risk communications strategies for health events, emergencies, and public health matters.
