Job description

The Health Department Clerk provides administrative and clerical support for the Health Department and customer service to the public. This position is primarily focused on administrative services for the Health Department and requires good judgement, careful attention to detail, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and exceptional communication skills.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain professional communication while providing exceptional customer service to internal and external clients through a multi-line phone system, in-person contact, email, and other means of communication.
  2. Maintain department financial databases, accurately documenting and processing expenditures and revenue.
  3. Determine client insurance coverage and process health insurance billing and revenue.
  4. Schedule client appointments and complete registration and appointment documentation.
  5. Complete basic data entry into information systems, databases, and software. Research, compile, and analyze data for department programs and services, Board of Health, grant projects/reports, and other projects or reports as needed.
  6. Process outgoing and incoming correspondence.
  7. File, copy/scan, compile, reproduce, and distribute documents.
  8. Manage supply inventory and place orders as needed.
  9. Support Sharps collection program and Radon test kit distribution activities.
  10. Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA laws.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Three years of clerical experience and at least one year of experience with health insurance billing and payment processing required.
  3. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Motor Vehicle operator's license.
