Job description

The Safety Specialist will support ongoing initiatives to continually improve WhiteWater’s safety programs, supporting midstream operations across a broad range of assets and projects. Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist will spend time in both the WhiteWater Houston office and in the field ensuring safety and compliance program effectiveness.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementation of all health and safety programs pertaining to OSHA and PHMSA regulatory compliance, as well as state and local guidelines and requirements.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for improvement to company safety manual and standards, ensuring that updates and additions are well-communicated.
  • Coordinates or otherwise develops and delivers engaging safety meetings and training applicable to various operations and positions within the company; tracks attendance and performance within the company Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Monitors overall safety program effectiveness, assists in compiling and delivering routine reports to management surrounding training and compliance.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Researches and reports changes of applicable health and safety regulations and laws to the Health & Safety manager and other members of the organization.
  • Conducts periodic health and safety assessments and audits of existing operations and contractors, preparing and maintaining appropriate documentation and action items.
  • Provides technical assistance and support to company personnel on health and safety related compliance issues.
  • Responsible for utilizing incident tracking software, performing incident analysis, monitoring the process for timeliness and quality; tracks associated corrective actions in the company system of record, ensuring their completion.
  • Responsible for maintaining and ensuring quality of records, including but not limited to work permits, training, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and incidents.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as identified and assigned by supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience is required, and at least 3 years experience in pipeline safety is preferred.
  • CSP or ASP preferred, or willingness to achieve certification within two years of hire date.
  • Must have exceptional computer skills, including knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platforms, Adobe, Articulate, Veriforce and/or other business and EHS-related programs preferred.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and meet company insurability requirements.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays and respond to call outs and emergencies.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints, PI&D’s, and other diagrams.
  • Knowledge and experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquid, and high/low pressure systems.
  • Ability to work in changing climate conditions.
  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules and maintain high attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and fluency in English is required.
  • Must be able to lift, push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to work in tight spaces, climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, walkways, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel approximately 25% -35% of the time.
  • Ability to report to the Houston office when not present at field work locations.
