Purpose of role

As the Health and Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for fostering a strong site safety culture and performance. You will review, develop, and implement all activities related to Occupational Health and Safety. You will also work with management and employees to establish a visible safety profile and ensure safety-related outcomes are achieved.

Along with knowledge and experience in occupational health and safety, you should have a creative mindset and enjoy collaborating to develop effective internal training and development systems to achieve OSHA compliance.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate improvement on all leading and lagging safety indicators
  • Adhere to Health & Safety, PSM, and training plans
  • Improve injury rates year on year to foster a zero-accident culture at Devro
  • Maintain and continuously improve the existing H&S Management System, ensuring legislative compliance
  • Manage safety systems, document control, and record keeping to meet legislative requirements and internal controls
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and feedback
  • Manage workers' compensation claims, liaising with insurers, medical professionals, and rehabilitation services
  • Initiate safety awareness programs and promote health and safety initiatives
  • Participate actively in risk assessment processes to ensure realistic and effective controls
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure a safe workplace environment
  • Assist departments in conducting risk assessments and hazard controls
  • Coordinate safety, health, and rehabilitation reporting, ensuring compliance with Life Saving Rules
  • Provide administrative support to the H&S Manager and perform ad hoc duties as needed
Required skills, knowledge, and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in health & safety or related field is desirable but not essential
  • 5-10 years of safety-related experience is essential
  • Experience with Workers' Compensation and PSM is highly desirable
  • Safety certifications (e.g., ASP, OHST, SMS) are desirable; willingness to obtain further safety qualifications is essential
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills across all organizational levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Creative mindset and compassionate approach are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of OSHA and life safety regulations
  • Ability to interpret and apply health and safety legislation and policies
