Job summary

YMCA of the East Bay in Antioch, CA is seeking reliable, nurturing teachers for Early Learning Centers serving birth to 5 years old. The role requires implementing Head Start standards, developing curriculum, and partnering with families to ensure growth and learning.

Position is on-site, full-time, with an hourly range of $30–$38. Candidates should be prepared for health and safety requirements and ongoing professional development within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; Head Start AA degree or above required.
• Current Child Development permit at the Associate Teacher level or above.
• 12+ semester units in Early Childhood Education; Early Head Start requires 6 infant/toddler units with grade C or above.
• English communication proficiency; bilingual preferred.
• 2 years of experience as a classroom teacher in Early Childhood Programs; prefer state-subsidized or Head Start setting.
• Experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Pre-employment physical and TB clearance.
• Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificates (15 hours of health and safety training) or completion within 90 days of hire.
• LiveScan fingerprint and criminal record clearance.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• MS Word, Outlook and other computer programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement curriculum goals per Creative Curriculum and Head Start frameworks.
• Plan and facilitate learning activities for individuals and groups with guidance and supervision.
• Supervise and monitor children at all times.
• Interact with children using intentional verbal and non-verbal strategies.
• Document progress of each child in online systems using observations and assessments.
• Conduct home visits and parent/teacher conferences annually.
• Create engaging environments reflecting cultural diversity and draw on community resources.
• Build partnerships with families to support each child's growth.
• Ensure Health and Safety requirements per licensure and Head Start standards.
• Maintain attendance and daily meal documentation in the child care system.
