Job summary

EASTCONN Killingly Head Start at Killingly High School in Killingly, Connecticut is hiring an Assistant Teacher. The role supports preschool children’s social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth under the Head Start program.

The candidate will assist the Head Start Teacher, maintain a safe learning environment, and collaborate with families to promote learning both in class and at home. Immediate start with full-time hours and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred in early childhood education, child development or related field.
• 2-3 years related work experience with young children in an early childhood setting.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
• Ability to keep all information on families strictly confidential.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Engage with children during all activities and supervise to ensure safety.
• Assist Head Start Teacher to meet individual needs of children.
• Maintain classroom management using developmentally appropriate techniques.
• Serve as a liaison between staff and parents; encourage classroom involvement.
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss development and progress.
• Assist in planning activities with Head Start Teacher and implement daily schedule.
• Assist in record keeping and documenting observations and screenings.
