The position of Assistant Teacher assists in the instruction and care of infant/toddler‑aged children in activities designed to promote social‑emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. Assistant Teachers are also responsible for assisting the Teacher in the general day‑to‑day operations of the Early Head Start classroom.
Assistant Teachers report directly to the Early Head Start Teacher or Education Manager/Head Start Coordinator. The Assistant Teacher assists in creating and nurturing strong partnerships with families and ensuring that instruction is consistent with best practice and at the highest level of quality, in compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Make routine decisions around day‑to‑day execution of the job. Good time management and organizational skills. Work closely with management to ensure program compliments Head Start Program Performance Standards. Keep managers informed of important issues. Build effective relationships within the program, the children and their families.

Minimum qualifications include a CDA (Child Development Associate) and 2‑3 years experience. Associate degree, preferred, in early childhood education, child development or related field; 2‑3 years related work experience with young children in an early childhood setting.
