Job summary

Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa seeks a Full-time Head Start kitchen assistant to uphold safety and cleanliness and manage food orders and inventory. You will help plan nutritious menus with a nutritionist and ensure quality from receipt to serving.

You’ll maintain records and support daily kitchen operations in a respectful, compliant environment. You must have a high school diploma or GED, two years in food service, and required Food Handler and Serve Safe certifications, with

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Two years experience in food service and knowledge of food preparation.
• Food handler’s certification required; must obtain within 1 month of hire.
• Serve Safe certification required; must obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Effective communication, ability to work independently, and attention to detail.
• Background checks and immunization review required; drug and alcohol testing administered.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safety and cleanliness standards in the kitchen.
• Manages nutrition budget and records.
• Orders food and supplies weekly with input from kitchen staff.
• Checks shipments and signs invoices after verification.
• Contributes to rotating menus with a nutritionist for meals.
• Determines quantities based on planned menus and ensures quality.
• Prepares monthly inventory sheets and daily production records.
• Assists with daily cleaning of kitchen equipment and dishwashing.
• Reports faulty equipment or inferior food to supervisor.
• Attends mandatory department trainings and maintains confidentiality.
• Maintains professional, courteous interactions with staff and visitors.
• Maintains good attendance and is flexible to take on other duties.
