Qualifications

• Must be able to serve and effectively communicate with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
• Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic.
• Computer literate.
• Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.
• Ability to operate office machinery.
• Ability to function with diplomacy and tact.
• Handle all student information with confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the education and daily program of a Head Start or Early Head Start classroom.
• Assist with implementation and coordination of all Head Start functions.
• Identify and report child abuse/neglect, notifying Center Manager.
• Provide educational experiences to develop language arts and self-worth.
• Ensure all children receive individual attention and safe environments.
• Be in the classroom before children arrive and manage safety of areas.
• Assist with assessments, field trips, meals, and staff ratios.
• Maintain required training hours and report illnesses or accidents promptly.
• Keep areas neat and demonstrate good judgment with Head Start children.
