Job summary

Union County Community Action, Inc. in Hamlet, North Carolina, is seeking a dependable Custodian to maintain Head Start buildings and provide transportation support as assigned.

The successful candidate will contribute to a clean, safe space for children and families and perform bus-related responsibilities when required. The role includes classroom and facility upkeep, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:30am to 4:30pm (40 hours/week).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL required or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening and TB test; random screenings.
• Custodial or maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Assist with facility maintenance and supply organization.
• Safely transport children to and from program locations.
• Serve as a bus monitor when assigned.
• Maintain safe and sanitary environments for children and staff.
• Support program operations as needed.

Help create clean, safe spaces where children can learn and families feel welcome. UCCA is seeking a dependable Custodian to maintain Head Start buildings and grounds and provide transportation support as assigned.

Your work will directly support the health, safety, and daily success of children, families, and staff.

Starting Rate: Up to $15 per hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday 7:30am-4:30pm (40 hours/week)

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform physical custodial duties including standing, bending, lifting, mopping, and operating cleaning equipment. Position requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and the ability to safely operate a school bus.
