Job summary

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit seeks a Head Start Teacher Assistant SV COG II to support the Lead Teacher in delivering engaging early childhood activities and ensuring alignment with Head Start standards. You will help implement a curriculum tailored to individual developmental needs and foster a positive learning environment.

This role emphasizes monitoring child development, promoting health and safety, and collaborating with families and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
• Minimum CDA credential or state-awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential, or enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of hire
• Experience working with young children in an educational setting is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with the Head Start program and its guidelines is a plus.
• Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and families.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher in planning and conducting classroom activities aligned with Head Start standards.
• Observe and record children's progress to inform assessments and individualized learning plans.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy classroom environment following health protocols.
• Engage with families through conferences and communications to support home-to-school connections.
• Supervise meals, bathroom breaks, naps, and other daily routines; support self-care skills.
• Collaborate with team members and participate in professional development.
