Job summary

Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD Head Start) in Dorchester Head Start is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support a teaching team in caring for preschool children and implementing the Education Component objectives of the Performance Standards.

You will assist with planning, observing and documenting progress, participate in home visits and conferences, develop developmentally appropriate activities, maintain records, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and policies.

Qualifications

• Develop activities to involve parents in education and understand child growth.
• Good interpersonal skills; work cooperatively with staff and parents.
• Possess bilingual ability where appropriate.
• Demonstrated knowledge of education needs of Head Start families.
• Ability to work with a culturally diverse low-income population.

Responsibilities

• Participate in daily observations of children.
• Attend two home visits and three parent/teacher conferences per family per year.
• Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities.
• Develop and implement written IEPs for children with special needs.
• Engage in record keeping of daily observations and parent communications.
• Participate in Team meetings.
• Provide classroom coverage in the absence of Teacher or Lead Teacher.
• Report to Teacher/Lead Teacher on daily classroom duties.
• Report to the Program Director on employment terms and center operations.
