Job summary

The Y of Central Maryland is seeking a Head Start Assistant Teacher to support classroom activities, supervision, and the health and safety of children in the program.

You will collaborate with teachers, center administration, family advocates and family members to implement curriculum and achieve outcomes for children of all abilities. This role emphasizes teamwork and regulatory compliance, with a focus on preparing economically disadvantaged children for school success.

Qualifications

• Interest in well-being and education of young children.
• Some prior early childhood experience.
• Clear communication and listening with children, parents/guardians, and Y associates.
• CDA certification required.
• 90-hour child care certification (and 9 hours in communication) required.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with teachers, center administration, family advocates and families to implement curriculum and achieve outcomes for children of all abilities.
• Ensure health, welfare, safety and regulatory compliance for children in the program.
• Contribute to a safe, supportive environment that fosters development in social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative domains.
