Christchurch School seeks a dedicated leader for its boys' and girls' soccer programs, who will also support the Marketing and Communications Department. This role combines coaching with marketing responsibilities, fostering student-athletes' growth and community engagement in a vibrant boarding school environment.
Christchurch School is a co-ed Episcopal boarding and day school serving grades 9—12. Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia’s tidewater region. The school’s Mission is to inspire and guide each student's pursuit of personal excellence in academics and character so they are prepared for meaningful lives as engaged citizens and community leaders.
Position Overview: Christchurch School is looking to find the next leader of our boy’s and girl’s soccer programs who also wants to be a part the school’s Marketing and Communications Department. We know that many people come to education through coaching and we have an opening in our Marketing and Communications Department. While we want a competitive program, more we want the next program leader to continue to help foster young men and women who value character, curiosity, and community. We define success from the types of experiences our student-athletes have as they grow and mature rather than the numbers of wins and losses. Nonetheless, we are proud that we are able to maintain that philosophy while we also have extremely competitive soccer programs. Our girl’s and boy’s soccer teams are consistently competitive in VISAA Division II each fall (for boys) and spring (for girls). In the past four years the boy’s team has been to the state playoffs each year, making it to the finals the last three, and winning the championship twice. The girl’s team has been to the finals the last three years. As a boarding school we are lucky to have student-athletes from all over the world who play on our soccer teams but also contribute in many other ways to the school community, athletically, academically, and socially. The new coach will be excited about building on that strong tradition while ensuring that student-athletes come to Christchurch for the totality of the CCS experience and not only to play soccer.
Marketing and Communications experience or degree is strongly preferred. A passion to learn and to work with high school age students in a boarding school setting is a necessity. As is a desire to see the work of a coach as contributing to many areas of the life of a boarding school environment.
A typical load includes coaching 2 seasons, and contributing to the boarding school life by doing duty one night a week and weekend duty approximately 6 weekends a year. If you have a background in either marketing and communications or coaching and want to add coaching experience with marketing experience, please consider applying. This could be a particularly exciting opportunity for someone just out of college considering education as a career.
Being a part of a boarding school comes with other benefits beyond the coaching and community. Our school is located on the beautiful Rappahannock River along the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. Our location provides recreational opportunities on the water and is within an hour drive of major cities and airports.
Please submit an electronic resume and a letter of interest to bburlee@christchurchschool.org. Candidates will be contacted within two weeks of receiving application materials if we are interested in setting up an initial phone interview.
