Job summary

Penn State University’s ARL seeks a Department Head for Autonomy and Emerging Technology, fully on-site in State College, PA, with periodic travel to remote locations. Lead innovations in subsea autonomy, sensor integration, and mission planning for unmanned systems.

Manage programs, resources, and personnel, partnering with Navy sponsors and DoD collaborators. The role blends technical leadership with program management, advancing autonomy-enabled CONOPS and cross-domain unmanned systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science required.
• Experience with UxV autonomy, programs and field testing.
• Eligibility for access to classified information (Top Secret) may be required.

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership to advance autonomy for UxVs and fleet testing.
• Oversee UxV programs and multidisciplinary teams across domains.
• Align resources including test assets and facilities with program needs.
• Mentor engineers in autonomy, sensing, navigation and domains.
• Collaborate across ARL to integrate autonomy with vehicles and sensors.
