Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA, invites applications for a Department Head for Autonomy and Emerging Technology (AET) within ARL's Systems and Emerging Capabilities Division. This on-site leadership role will guide autonomy R&D for unmanned vehicles, sensors, and mission planning in challenging maritime environments.

You will lead cross-disciplinary teams, oversee UxV programs, collaborate with sponsors to shape research directions, manage resources and field tests, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science; 19+ years of relevant experience
• Experience leading technical teams and programs
• Ability to obtain government security clearance (Top Secret)

Responsibilities

• Lead innovation in SSW autonomy for UxVs, including simulation and field testing
• Oversee UxV programs and multi-disciplinary teams across navigation, endurance, acoustics, modeling, and autonomy-enabled CONOPS
• Allocate resources and align personnel and facilities with program needs
• Mentor engineers and researchers in UxV autonomy, control, sensing, and navigation
• Plan and execute programs involving system integration, sea testing, and simulations
• Collaborate with ARL departments and sponsors to shape new research directions
• Develop and shape new UxV autonomy opportunities with the SSW Portfolio
• Engage Navy sponsors and represent ARL at autonomy and undersea systems conferences
