Blue Origin in Washington state seeks a Senior Director to lead the architecture, development, qualification, production, and deployment of TeraWave optical communications terminals.

You will manage a multidisciplinary engineering organization, collaborating with spacecraft, ground systems, mission operations, manufacturing, and program management to shape the technical roadmap for future terminal generations and ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, computer science, or related technical field
• 12+ years of engineering experience with substantial leadership of multidisciplinary teams
• Experience developing electro-optical, optical communications, aerospace, or similarly complex products
• Track record taking products from architecture through deployment
• Strong ability to recruit and retain engineering talent

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and product definition for TeraWave optical communications terminals
• Drive architecture decisions across engineering disciplines to meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability goals
• Define interfaces between the optical terminal, spacecraft, ground infrastructure, and network
• Lead resolution of complex technical issues and cross-disciplinary tradeoffs
• Maintain the technical roadmap for future terminal generations
• Own engineering execution from concept to deployment with clear milestones and risk management
• Partner with program management to define commitments and accountability
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering organization
• Establish engineering standards and operating mechanisms for visibility into health
• Recruit and retain exceptional engineering talent
• Collaborate with spacecraft, ground systems, manufacturing, supply chain, and network engineering to ensure producible designs
• Drive design-for-manufacturing, design-for-test, and design-for-reliability practices
