Job summary

Baker College in Owosso seeks a Director of Skilled Trades and Technical Education to lead and expand our premier technical programs, including the Auto Diesel Institute (ADI). The role shapes workforce-ready education by forming partnerships with employers, high schools, and workforce organizations while aligning resources with strategic growth.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree with extensive industry leadership experience and a proven track record launching or expanding programs,

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; extensive industry and leadership experience.
Five+ years in higher education, K–12 CTE with higher education partnerships, vocational or technical education, workforce development, or industrial sector management.
Credentials or trades licensure preferred (ASE, AWS, HVAC, NC3, PMMI). OSHA 10/30 preferred; valid driver's license required for travel between locations.

Responsibilities

Lead growth and development of Baker College's skilled trades programs and ADI portfolio.
Cultivate partnerships with employers, high schools, career/CTE centers, and workforce orgs to expand dual enrollment, articulation, apprenticeship, and career pathways.
Oversee personnel, daily operations, and ensure labs, tools, and equipment meet industry standards.
Collaborate with academic leadership to recruit/develop faculty and advance curriculum quality; pursue external funding and shared-resource opportunities.
Establish measurable goals, budgets, and timelines to drive continuous improvement and sustainable results.
