Job summary

Pivotal Health in San Francisco is seeking a Head of Security to own the company’s security program from the ground up. This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of strategy, engineering, compliance, and customer trust, shaping how we protect provider and partner data across a fast-growing, AI-native platform.

You'll partner with engineering, define policies, manage SOC 2 and HIPAA readiness, and champion secure practices while communicating with customers and auditors.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of security experience across technical implementation and program strategy.
• Strong knowledge of cloud, infrastructure, and application security fundamentals.
• Experience building or maturing a security program at an early-stage or high-growth company.
• Hands-on with compliance (SOC 2, HIPAA) including control design and audit prep.
• Ability to represent security externally to customers, auditors, and partners.
• Collaborator and influencer capable of earning trust across functions.
• Comfort with ambiguity and greenfield work, building from scratch.
• Up-to-date with threat landscape and security tooling.

Responsibilities

• Build and own Pivotal's security program, defining strategy, policies, and roadmap.
• Partner with engineering to embed security into platform design, development, and deployment.
• Lead compliance and regulatory readiness, including SOC 2 and HIPAA, and coordinate audits.
• Monitor evolving threat landscape and adapt defenses accordingly.
• Represent security to customers, partners, and during security reviews and questionnaires.
• Drive security awareness across the organization, collaborating with non-engineering teams.
• Develop guardrails for AI/LLM security and responsible deployment.
