Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking a highly experienced, strategic, and hands-on Head of Security to oversee the protection of our diverse real estate portfolio. This critical leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and operational integrity of our corporate headquarters, premium retail apartments, and high-traffic mixed-use commercial spaces.

The ideal candidate will bring a distinguished background in local law enforcement, specifically with direct tenure in both the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD). You will be tasked with building a robust security culture, managing specialized surveillance operations, and directly overseeing an elite vendor-provided physical security team.

Key Responsibilities

• Vendor & Team Management: Serve as the primary point of contact and contract manager for our third-party security consulting firm. Directly oversee, train, and audit the performance of the outsourced guard force to ensure strict adherence to corporate standards, accountability, and professionalism.
• Surveillance Operations: Design, implement, and maintain advanced surveillance protocols across all properties. Utilize modern CCTV systems, access control technologies, and proactive monitoring techniques to identify, assess, and mitigate potential threats before they elevate.
• Multi-Site Asset Protection: Tailor distinct security strategies for three unique environments:
• Corporate Office: Executive protection, access management, asset tracking, and intellectual property safeguarding.
• Retail/Residential Apartments: Community policing models, tenant safety, conflict de-escalation, and parking structure security.
• Mixed-Use Commercial Space: Public safety coordination, crowd management, loss prevention partnership, and high-visibility deterrence.
• Incident Response & Investigations: Lead investigations into security breaches, property damage, or criminal activity on-site. Act as the primary liaison with local law enforcement, emergency services, and legal teams during critical incidents.
• Emergency Preparedness: Develop, update, and drill comprehensive emergency action plans (fire, active threat, natural disasters, medical emergencies) for corporate staff, residential tenants, and commercial occupants.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Law Enforcement Background: A proven track record of honorable service within both the LAPD and the LA Sheriff's Department. Deep familiarity with Los Angeles County penal codes, local crime trends, and established networks within local divisions is highly preferred.
• Surveillance Expertise: Extensive, documented experience managing complex surveillance operations, utilizing digital video management systems (VMS), and leveraging analytics for threat detection.
• Portfolio Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years in a corporate or private security leadership role, specifically managing a mix of commercial, retail, or multi-family residential properties.
• Vendor Management: Demonstrated experience overseeing third-party security vendors, managing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and driving accountability through Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Communication Skills: Exceptional command presence with the ability to defuse high-stress situations, draft detailed incident reports, and communicate seamlessly with corporate executives, residents, and local authorities.

Preferred Certifications

• Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP).
• Active California Guard Card and Exposed Firearm Permit (or ability to leverage HR 218 / LEOSA privileges).
