Job summary

The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library seeks a Head of Public Services to oversee public service operations, user experience strategy, and the implementation of innovative technology resources and planning.

The role requires MLIS level education with 3–5 years in academic libraries, demonstrated leadership of public services and user-centered initiatives, plus experience supervising staff and managing tech-enhanced learning environments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
• 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic library or learning commons.
• Experience leading public services operations and user-centered service initiatives.
• Experience supervising professional staff and managing teams.
• Experience developing customer service models or user experience strategies.
• Experience managing technology-rich learning environments, makerspaces, or digital labs.
• Familiarity with assessment frameworks and service design methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, strategic direction, and leadership for the User Experience Team and public services points.
• Oversee management and operation of the Technology Design Studio and associated audiovisual labs.
• Implement staffing models, workflows, and service standards aligned with user needs.
• Align public services with academic engagement strategies such as reference and student success services.
• Implement customer service frameworks promoting accessibility and inclusivity at all public services points.
• Manage public technology resources including computers, software, studios, and 3D printers.
