Job summary

Corning Inc. is seeking a Precision Optics Engineering Department Head to lead three PO engineering teams in a high-precision manufacturing environment. You will deliver stable, capable processes that support production commitments, NPI, and capacity expansion.

You will drive scrap/rework reduction, coach engineering talent, and present to executives. This role demands strong leadership, communication, and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a complex manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Optical/Chemical preferred).
• 10+ years in manufacturing or process engineering.
• 5+ years of leadership experience.
• Demonstrated problem solving leadership.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Lead PO engineering teams (Optical Fabrication, Coating, Assembly & Test).
• Provide daily engineering support to production operations and drive resolution for process issues quickly across the PO engineering teams.
• Drive accountability, ownership, and empowerment across the PO engineering teams.
• Own and drive the scrap and rework reduction project portfolio for PO.
• Develop and coach a capable engineering team.
• Implement Engineering Excellence initiatives.
• Prepare communications to executives and customers.
• Enable PO product and capacity ramp through process readiness and equipment readiness.
• Drive the PO engineering teams to improve yield, cycle time, scrap, and throughput.
• Strengthen PCPD across the PO engineering teams to improve process control, documentation, data analysis, statistical process control, and standard work.
