Job summary

Smartsheet is seeking a Manager for People Systems Engineering to lead the engineering team responsible for the employee technology ecosystem, including Workday, Docebo, and Greenhouse. You will define long-term architecture, data strategy, and automation across integrations, data, and AI capabilities.

You will partner with Product to shape roadmaps, mentor engineers, and drive modernization while maintaining security and reliability of critical HR platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience across enterprise application engineering, software engineering, HR technology, systems architecture, or related technical disciplines.
• 2+ years of experience managing or formally leading technical teams.
• Strong hands-on technical understanding of Workday and related platforms.
• Experience defining technical strategy or architecture beyond delivery.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and long-term architecture for the People technology ecosystem across Workday and integrations.
• Lead and develop the engineering team responsible for Smartsheet’s People platforms.
• Serve as a technical leader for Workday ensuring architecture is scalable and secure.
• Partner with Product Manager to translate problems into strategic roadmaps and architecture ownership.
• Define AI and agentification strategies for employee technology and automation.
• Develop data strategy, governance, and reliable consumption by downstream systems.
• Drive API-first and event-driven evolution to reduce point-to-point integrations.
• Establish testing, CI/CD, observability, and release practices for enterprise platforms.
• Communicate strategy and tradeoffs to leadership.
• Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers with enterprise platform expertise.
