Job summary

Grunau Company is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the mechanical engineering department, overseeing design-build and plan-and-spec projects. The role focuses on mentorship, scheduling, and cross-functional alignment with sales, project management, and external partners.

You will drive technical strategy, ensure constructability, and uphold company standards across HVAC systems while guiding a team of engineers toward successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• PE license preferred.
• 15+ years of HVAC mechanical engineering experience.
• Minimum 10 years of leadership or management experience.
• Extensive experience with commercial and industrial HVAC systems.
• Proven experience leading Design-Build and Design-Assist projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical codes including IMC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and local codes.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and HVAC load calculation software.
• Strong financial understanding of engineering budgets, labor planning, and project profitability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop junior and design engineers through coaching and education.
• Maintain and manage the engineering design calendar and project milestones.
• Prioritize workloads for the engineering team to align with goals.
• Engage third-party engineering and design firms as needed.
• Collaborate with sales teams to support technical strategy and value engineering.
• Oversee design-build efforts to ensure value and client satisfaction.
• Manage documentation and handoffs to project managers.
• Lead continuing education and training for the engineering team.
• Support business development by communicating design value to clients.
