The role is based in Cambridge/Waltham, MA with relocation to be completed at year-end; Akebia emphasizes hybrid flexibility and collaboration across teams to advance kidney disease therapies.

Qualifications

• J.D. and Patent Bar required.
• PhD in Organic Chemistry or Biology (or similar discipline).
• Small molecule and/or biologic patent experience preferred.
• 10+ years in law firm or in-house biopharmaceutical settings.
• Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the IP strategy for Akebia.
• Collaborate with R&D and CMC to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications.
• Advise CEO, ELT and Board on IP matters.
• Develop IP strategies for product candidates.
• Lead IP due diligence for business development opportunities.
