Job summary

Skoll Foundation is seeking a Managing Director of Grants Management in Washington, DC. This executive leads the grants management function and oversees the Grants Manager, shaping the strategy, policies, and systems for private foundation grantmaking.

The role requires on-site presence three days a week with a hybrid schedule, manages approximately $100 million in grants annually, and partners with Finance, Legal, and external vendors to ensure compliance and efficient grant execution.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10+ years in grants management, nonprofit, and/or operations with grantmaking responsibilities.
• At least 5+ years in foundation grants management or grantmaking operations.
• Robust knowledge of IRS requirements and private foundation grantmaking.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead grants management operations and the full lifecycle of grants.
• Collaborate with Finance on grant budgeting and payout planning.
• Oversee pre- and post-award activities, compliance, and reporting.
• Manage relationships with external partners and pilot grantmaking tools.
• Develop policies and train staff on grants management processes.
