Job Description

AXIS is seeking a Head of Financial Lines Claims, North America, to join our North America Claims team to support the expansion of AXIS' presence in the Financial Lines Market in North America. The successful candidate will lead and develop a sophisticated team handling a variety of claims including Management Liability, EPL, Transactional, Crime, & Fiduciary claims for the United States & Bermuda, ensuring excellent claims service and results. The role involves developing the target operating model using data-driven reporting and metrics to deliver top-tier service, and engaging with stakeholders, brokers, and insureds to maintain AXIS's reputation for service excellence.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Supervising and managing claims investigations, analysis, and evaluation of coverage liability and damages.
  2. Providing aggregate reporting for the North America Financial Lines Claims portfolio, collaborating with the Global Markets Claims team.
  3. Collaborating with the Specialty Complex Claims team on coverage disputes, litigation, and arbitration involving Axis issuing companies.
  4. Identifying when to involve outside coverage counsel and managing such relationships.
  5. Formulating claims management strategies and managing outside defense counsel.
  6. Guiding claims teams strategically throughout the claim lifecycle.
  7. Managing costs related to coverage counsel and litigation, working with the Claims Litigation & Vendor Management team.
  8. Collaborating across disciplines, including general counsel, to address errors and omissions issues.
  9. Identifying trends and issues in liability and coverage, developing strategies for management, and ensuring consistent claims handling.
  10. Supporting underwriting inquiries related to policy construction, reporting trends, data analysis, and risk assessments.
  11. Coaching and mentoring team members, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.
  12. Recruiting, hiring, and developing talent, and planning for succession.
  13. Building relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners such as brokers, reinsurers, and attorneys.
  14. Communicating extensively with senior management, brokers, reinsurers, and other stakeholders.
  15. Demonstrating AXIS's core values: People, Decisiveness, Excellence, and Stronger Together.

Key skills and abilities include 7-10+ years in claims management, leadership skills, excellent communication, analytical proficiency, and knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes. A law degree and admission to a state bar are a plus. Travel is expected for team management and client engagement.

Base salary: $225,000 - $275,000.
