Job summary

Proper Cloth, a growing menswear brand, seeks a Director of Finance in New York for ownership of the company’s accounting and finance function. You’ll ensure accuracy, discipline, and clarity while partnering with leaders evaluating plans, investments, and operational changes.

This senior, hands-on role requires translating financial data into clear insights for teams and managing accounting outcomes, processes, and systems across the organization.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years in finance, accounting, or operational finance.
• Experience owning accounting functions (AP, close, and reporting).
• Strong cost accounting and operational finance knowledge.
• Ability to translate financial data for non-finance stakeholders.
• Experience managing people, processes, and systems.
• Ecommerce/retail/inventory-heavy background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own and elevate accounting operations.
• Oversee AP, close, and financial reporting.
• Build department P&Ls and cost reporting.
• Provide insights to department leaders with clear visuals.
• Partner with CEO and heads on plans and investments.
