Job summary

Carter Machinery, Inc. in Richmond, Virginia, seeks a Director of Field Operations and Maintenance to lead commissioning, operation, and maintenance of mobile and modular power plants using natural gas turbines and engines. You will drive reliability, uptime, and safety across multi-site field teams.

The role partners with CAT dealers, uses SCADA/EMS to optimize performance, and requires a strong track record in power generation operations plus team leadership and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field (or equivalent field experience).
• Minimum 12 years of experience in power generation operations and maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with natural gas turbines and/or reciprocating engines.
• Experience managing field teams in multi-site or mobile asset environments.
• Strong understanding of SCADA/EMS and remote monitoring tools.
• Experience with maintenance planning and tracking systems (CMMS).
• Experience with CAT equipment or CAT dealers.
• Experience in data center, industrial, utility, or oil & gas environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning, operation, and maintenance of mobile and modular distributed power plants.
• Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance programs and field service events.
• Coordinate major service events with the CAT Dealer and Parent Company.
• Leverage SCADA and EMS to optimize performance and uptime.
• Ensure safety, reliability, and compliance across field teams.
• Promote positive customer experiences and uphold Carter Way values.
