Job summary

Tonal is seeking a senior engineering leader to head the Experiences team, responsible for improving member happiness and retention through enhancements across trainer, mobile app, and backend systems. You will own the roadmap, drive delivery with cross‑functional partners, and guide architectural decisions while maintaining high-quality, reliable product experiences.

The role requires building and mentoring a team of engineers, hiring for growth, and balancing speed with technical excellence.

Qualifications

Has managed software engineers directly for several years, including hiring and performance management.
Shipped consumer-facing product experiences on mobile, web, or embedded devices.
Strong engineering background with deep expertise in at least one area.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of engineers, set direction, conduct performance reviews, coach, and provide constructive feedback.
Own delivery of the member experience roadmap with Product, Design, Data Science and Content; ensure predictable shipping of quality work.
Drive technical quality: reliability, performance, test coverage, release health; balance debt vs. shipping speed.
Partner with other teams to accelerate feedback loops and reduce coordination overhead.
Hire and grow the team; define what good looks like at each level; build a leadership bench.
Stay close to the work: review designs, assess risks, and understand tradeoffs.
