Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Director of Data Engineering & AI Platforms in Overland Park, KS. You will lead enterprise data & AI platforms, set strategy, and drive governance, security, and scale across the organization.

You will manage a 20–25 person team of engineers and architects, align with executives on investment, and deliver measurable business value while advancing responsible AI practices in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• 15+ years in data engineering, cloud or analytics platforms.
• 10+ years of leadership managing technical teams and partners.
• Proven ownership of enterprise platforms and outcomes.
• Experience with Azure data services and modern data architecture.

Responsibilities

• Own enterprise-wide accountability for all data and AI platforms.
• Set and drive platform strategy and roadmaps aligned to business priorities.
• Lead a high-performing team of data engineers, platform engineers, and AI specialists.
• Establish platform ownership and operating model across services.
• Oversee end-to-end lifecycle from design to retirement of platforms.
• Enforce data & AI engineering standards and governance.
• Drive reusable, enterprise-grade data ingestion, transformation, and model lifecycle solutions.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, and business leaders.
• Manage budget, costs, and vendor/MSP performance.
• Ensure governance and Responsible AI controls across platforms.
