Job summary

Pi Security is building a security platform that helps engineering teams secure software as they ship it. We are hiring our Head of Engineering to lead the technical build-out at a pivotal, early stage, reporting to the CEO/co-founder and working with a small team in person in San Francisco.

This role blends coding with people leadership, architectural decisions, and scaling processes as the company grows. You will own the roadmap, mentor engineers, and ensure security and quality across the

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on engineering leader in early- or growth-stage startups.
• Strong backend/full-stack coding depth, not just management.
• Experience with data-intensive or AI/ML-driven products.
• Track record of hiring and developing engineers and building culture.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end engineering roadmap with CEO/co-founder.
• Stay hands-on: code, review PRs, and shape architecture.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard engineers; establish fast, safe processes.
• Set technical direction across backend, AI/ML, and developer workflows.
• Partner with founders on customer-facing technical conversations.
• Build scalable engineering practices: testing, reviews, on-call, incidents.
• Champion security and quality in engineering practices.
