Job summary

TalentGrid Search is seeking a Director of Engineering & Product Development in New York to lead product development from concept to commercialization and ongoing production. The role blends engineering judgment with manufacturing expertise and executive communication to drive the product roadmap.

The successful candidate will manage the full lifecycle across concept, prototyping, design for manufacturing, tooling, validation, and production readiness, while partnering with overseas

Qualifications

• 10+ years in engineering and/or product development within consumer products.
• Experience taking multiple products from concept through mass production.
• Experience working with overseas manufacturing partners.
• 5+ years leading engineering or product development teams.
• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering and product development process from concept through production.
• Translate concepts into clear technical requirements, plans, and priorities.
• Shape the product roadmap with senior leadership and assess feasibility.
• Identify risks and keep programs aligned with business objectives.
• Lead design reviews, validation, and key milestone decisions.
• Collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners and suppliers.
• Support production readiness and resolve quality/yield issues.
• Build and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Communicate progress to the executive team.
