Jobtailor seeks an engineering leader to drive new product lines from concept to launch in a hybrid New York setting. You will shape architecture with product leadership, guide execution across teams, and ensure scalable, reliable systems as products move to market.

You will mentor engineers, establish clear expectations, and create feedback loops to accelerate growth. Experience in startups or high-growth firms is valued.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering, including 1+ year in engineering leadership.
• Direct experience shipping a 0-to-1 product or system in a startup or high-growth environment, ideally through to commercial launch.
• Strong system design and architecture fundamentals.
• Ability to lead through ambiguity and turn an incomplete spec into structured execution.
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• High standards for engineering quality, reliability, and performance despite compressed timelines.
• Deep technical fluency, including code review, architecture, and tradeoffs.
• Founding engineer or early-stage startup experience is a bonus.
• Exposure to complex regulated environments is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow an engineering team shipping new product lines from zero to commercial launch.
• Build engineering culture through clear expectations, 1:1s, feedback loops, and career development.
• Partner with the Product Lead, New Products, to translate market hypotheses into technical architecture.
• Make build-vs-buy and scope decisions to test new products efficiently.
• Own technical execution from pilot through commercial launch.
• Hand off successful product lines to durable, supportable systems.
• Improve system reliability, observability, and engineering efficiency as products scale.
• Hire and develop engineers and future leaders.
• Report directly to the VP of Engineering and partner closely with the Product Lead, New Products.
