Job summary

Plug is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the engineering team in Santa Monica, pairing hands-on contribution with strategic leadership to shape the technical foundation of a fast-growing fintech platform.

You will report to the CEO, build and mentor a high-performing team, drive architectural decisions, and champion an AI-native SDLC. This onsite role emphasizes collaboration, ownership, and delivering scalable EV marketplace infrastructure.

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in an engineering leadership role.
Startup experience helping build an early-stage engineering function.
Contributing to production code: coding, PR reviews, and architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

Set technical vision and engineering direction in partnership with senior leadership.
Own engineering execution and deliver against product plan.
Collaborate across product, operations, and business leadership for impact.
Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
Be an architectural leader shaping system evolution and tradeoffs.
Remain an individual contributor roughly half the time to stay technically credible.
Identify and reduce technical debt incrementally.
Build an AI-native SDLC with product to improve agentic results.
Own engineering team planning, recruiting, and growth.
