HEAD OF DESIGN, Merchandising and Development - Hybrid

Our client is a well-established young contemporary importer searching for a Head of Design and Product Development for immediate hire. Experience in young contemporary sportswear and knitwear is a plus. The role involves leading the design team with concept development, product assortments, and overseeing the full product lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the design and development process for young contemporary and knitwear.
  2. Develop time and action calendars for each account's programs.
  3. Collaborate with the design team on fabric selection and construction to ensure quality.
  4. Manage placement strategies and recommend product placements.
  5. Lead product development and design, projecting future fabrications.
  6. Conduct trend analysis research to keep product lines competitive and innovative.
  7. Coordinate with the costing team to ensure budgets are met or exceeded.
  8. Maintain daily communication with overseas suppliers regarding production details and costing.
  9. Oversee product integrity and order specifications compliance, including approving lab dips and managing process flow.
  10. Plan and execute strategic sourcing to identify key partners.
  11. Knowledge of fabrications, especially Cut & Sewn Knits.

Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of experience in apparel design and development.
  2. Experience working with Kohl’s.
  3. Strong knowledge of fabrics and washes.
