Job summary

Etude in New York City or Austin seeks a Director of Data & Analytics to lead analytics across insurance and investment management. This role requires strategic vision and hands-on execution to move fast and deliver measurable impact.

You will build and mentor a growing analytics team, establish data governance, and partner with Finance, Operations, Product, and Technology to drive automation, forecasting, and performance insights across the portfolio.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a leadership role with direct reports.
• 10+ years in analytics, data strategy, business intelligence, or a related field.
• Proven experience leading company-wide analytics programs, ideally in a fast-moving startup.
• Strategic thinker who can also roll up sleeves to execute.
• Strong background in data operations, statistics, dashboards, and data governance.
• Experience with investment portfolios and/or insurance/financial analytics.
• Excellent communication to translate complex data into executive insights.
• Track record of building and leading high-performing analytics teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead analytics strategy and set direction for data collection, management, analysis, and insights across insurance and investments.
• Oversee and grow analytics functions, ensuring high-quality reporting, modeling, and data practices.
• Translate data into actionable insights to inform executive decisions and capital allocation.
• Drive automation and modern analytics tooling to accelerate insight generation.
• Mentor the analytics team while performing hands-on work when needed.
• Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Product and Technology to embed analytics across initiatives.
• Develop reporting platforms for underwriting optimization, claims performance, distribution insights, and forecasting.
