Job summary

American Hotel & Lodging Association, based in the Washington, DC area, seeks a Vice President of Conferences and Events to lead AHLA and AHLA Foundation's portfolio of conferences and events. You will collaborate with internal teams, vendors, sponsors, and members to ensure high-quality experiences from concept through execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 8–10 years of demonstrated experience in strategic conference, event, or association event management.
• Experience leading large-scale conferences, trade shows, member events, executive meetings, or complex multi-stakeholder events including budgets, vendors, contracts, timelines, and cross-functional project teams.
• CMP certification preferred; association/nonprofit experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute AHLA and AHLA Foundation's events portfolio across signature conferences, meetings, and partner events.
• Lead projects with clear objectives, timelines, budgets, deliverables, and accountability among internal and external stakeholders.
• Shape event experiences to grow engagement and attendance year over year.
• Oversee event budgets, revenue/expense projections, timelines, reporting tools, and post-event evaluations.
• Identify opportunities to improve event processes and attendee experiences.
• Ensure policies and planning practices are consistent across AHLA's event portfolio and support special projects.
